Championship
of the Sport
boats
started with
three races.
The Czech
Milan Hajek
took the
lead. After
some breeze
in the
morning, the
wind died
right after
lunch and
picked up a
bit again in
the
afternoon
when three
out of six
courses
continued
racing on
the Luebeck
Bay off
Travemuende,
Germany.

The successful

Reina Rolex Cup,

Quebramar Cup,

exclusively by

up-and-coming
GP42 fleet, to
its midpoint.
After an opening
event, the
Trofeo Pirelli
and a second one
in the
breathtaking
gulf of
Saint-Tropez for
the Giraglia
Rolex Cup, the
fleet moved on
to Valencia.

Just past
midnight this
morning the last
of the Baltic
Sprint Cup
yachts arrived
in Karlskrona.
The wind
conditions meant
it was a fairly
compact leg,
with just short
of 13 hours
separating the
first boat in
from the last.
Outsider was the
first home,
arriving
yesterday
morning at
10:35:45.

The ORC
Championship in Pescara, a race
includend as a mandatory event of
the ACT (Adriatic Challenge Trophy)
was held with 6 races on July
11th-13th, sponsored by "Borgo San
Benedetto, a new bio resort 20km
away. The race Committee led by FIV
councillor Ennio Pogliano started
and finished all 6 races of the
programme.

Near Miss, the
Swiss GP42 yacht flying the colors
of the Société Nautique de Genève,
dominated the 3rd event of the
QUEBRAMAR GP42 Cup. After a total of
7 races the Swiss come first,
followed by Roma GP42.2 and AIRIS.
Desafío is still leading the
QUEBRAMAR GP42 Cup but Near Miss
grabs 2nd place from AIRIS.

Ilhabela Sailing Week |

builders, and other interested
parties attended a presentation on
ORC Rating systems given by Dobbs
Davis at Rolex Ilhabela Sailing Week
at the Ilhabela YC. The presentation
provided an overview of the features
of the IMS measurement system, how
it relates to the ORC VPP.

incredibly close margin of 15
seconds in corrected time,

Near Miss, the

N/M34ims Century Fast, he contacted
Nelson/Marek Yacht Design to develop
a new ORC GP33 Class design. The

facilities and conditions in the

will grow.

Athens. With a "boukadoura", the
thermal southerly wind that replaced
the strong northerly "meltemi" of

Offshore Race |

The offshore race
of the ORCi Championship started on
schedule on June 24th, under a
meltemi, the northerly wind that
usually blows in July and August,
that pushed the fleet around a
course back anf forth in the Saronic
Gulf of Athens. The first around the
course was the Farr 52 "Superfast",
with average speed in excess of 10
knots.

preparations in Mikrolimano, Athens
sailboats small marina, the ORC
International World Championship
started today with a strong "meltemi"
that was blowing too hard in the
morning to allow a good race. After
a few hours wait, the meltemi
dropped a few knots and the Race
Committee made their way out to the
sea.

Cup |

The Sardinia Rolex
Cup, ISAF Offshore Team Worlds came
to a close today after a long wait
for a breeze which did not
materialize. The Race Committee
waited until the final time limit of
3 p.m. before admitting defeat while
Team Spain breathed a sigh of relief
as the overall results after eight
races became definitive.

Team Spain once
again excelled at the Sardinia Rolex
Cup with Pedro Campos taking victory
in all three of today’s races at the
helm of the TP52 Bribon Telefonica.
The overall combined results of each
team’s three boats (Farr 40, Swan
45, Transpac 52) after eight races
now sees Spain lead second-placed
Italy by eight points.

Race |

Marco Paolucci's
Comet 45S, Tartaruga, has taken
overall honours in the Giraglia Race
2008, concluding this year's
week-long Giraglia Rolex Cup. The
45-footer completed the 243-mile
course in 31 hours, 43 minutes, 27
seconds. Tartaruga won a very close
three-way battle on ORC corrected
time.

King Harald steps up for the
young guns |

Norway's King Harald has always
contributed to the Norwegian sailing
community with both passion and
numerous Fram campaigns. Now he has
lent his Fram XV, Farr 51, to a
young guns project called NORsteam.
NORsteam will sail its first regatta
in the ORC International Class in
Faerderseilasen this weekend.

The 2008 Rolex
Giraglia Race started at 14:05 on
Wednesday 11th June. Michel Briand
in the lead of the Race Committee
started 170 boats for the offshore
race leaving from St.Tropez bay
around the Porquerolles island then
the Giraglia rock at the northern
tip of Corsica then back to finish
in Genoa, on a course of 243 miles.

Three days ago
everybody was wishing to watch close
and exciting races for the second
event of the Quebramar GP42 Cup. Our
wishes were granted and it seems it
was Alfred Hitchcock himself that
took the liberty to write the play
of this closing day. Overall
leadership of the event changed
after each of the day’s three races.

team from the Canary Islands might
have the youngest tactician of the
whole fleet, 24-year old Rayco
Tabares, but their consistency in
today's three opening races of the
Giraglia Rolex Cup paid off and with
three second places they are now at
the top of the score table, 2 points
ahead of Desafio.

European Championship in Cres. The
wind from south west direction came
after 1 p.m. but still on time to

warning signal time limt that was

|
Due
to lack of wind there was no racing
on the fourth day of the ORC
International Central European
Championship. Beside the no wind
situation, there was rain coming and
stopping all day, but that's the
nature. The organizers hope that
tomorrow will bring better
conditions to close the championship
with some more racing.

The third day started again with an
one-hour postponement. But it was
obvious that today’s breeze would be
weaker than the other days. Around
one o’clock the boats were already
on the spot ready for another
battle. As usual the race committee
set the course along the cap Pernat

Some raining, but still enough wind
for one more race at the ORC
International Central European
Championship in Cres, Croatia.
Around 13:00 the boats were out on
the course ready for the start, but
the wind was not steady enough, so
they waited another hour and a half.
Wind from 175 gave the signal for
the third start at 14:00.

The weather did not give up in
front of Cres. The Race Committee
did not wait too much and called all
the crews on water. At the beginning
the wind was 6 knots blowing from

therefore the boats were awaiting
better winds lying around on the
boats. Around one 1 p.m. there was
approximately 9 to 10 knots "maestral".

came as if it was „ordered“ to the
Opening Ceremony of the ORC
International Central European
Championship. The port of Cres,
filled with tables, smell of fresh
made sardines, jars full of wine and
the trio Medeja, was able to attract
the real sailors who despite rain
came to the Opening Ceremony.

East Coast helped make the Adriatic
Cup in Ancona a success, with 23
boats competing in five races for
the 3rd Riccardo Stecconi Trophy.
Shaula, a Dufour 44, won the overall
trophy, but had stiff competition
from Paniccia's Farr-designed
