10 October 2016
part of the 2016 Taizhou International Yacht Festival, the first

This first year of the DongHai Cup featured three classes of racing, which included one design racing in the J/80 and Far East 28 classes, and racing under ORC handicaps for the larger offshore boats. In al there were 40 teams from all over the world competing together at this event.
In the ORC class, 9 teams participated in the two races held, with the Ningbo Dongqianhu Sailing Clubís Grand Soleil 46 winning both races, but not by much: the margin of victory in the first race was only 42 seconds in corrected time over the Sun Odyseey 42i Shu Guang, although it was the Oceanis 45 Jun Ling that finished second overall on scores of 3-2.
Before the regatta, the eventís Race Committee decided to change from IRC scoring to ORC in part due to fast service in getting the fleet equipped with ORC certificates in time for the event.
