Racing seasons starts in Croatia

31 March 2017

The racing season has started in Croatia with the Zadar ORC Cup, the first event of the CRO ORC D-Marin Cup, a series of the 6 most important ORC events in Croatia. The Zadar ORC Cup was organized in the Zadar channel in front of D-Marin Dalmacija Marina.

In addition to boats with ORC International certificates, this year’s CRO ORC Cup was extended to accept boats in the ORC Club division as well. Five windward/leeward races were held in almost ideal wind conditions: on the first day NW winds were in the range of 10 knots, while the second day featured stronger winds.

Corrected time results were decided merely by seconds in each race. However, the Croatian X-41 X-Cite with Tonko Rameša on the helm showed the most consistency and was always a step ahead of the competiton. With 4 bullets in their scores, their win was never in danger from the beginning of the event. Slovenian Marijan Kočila’s Elan 450 Sky with Tomislav Basic as tactician won 2nd place by showing great perfomance in the stronger winds of the 2nd day, while third place was taken by the Archambault 40 Gringo 2 helmed by Robert Sandalić, who was tied in overall points with Damir Desabota's Lady First. It should be noted that Gringo 2 defeated First Lady in 2 races by just one second of corrected time.

The CRO ORC D-Marin Cup has a new sponsor for this year: support from D-Marin Group made possible for all scored events to be free of any entry fee for all participants including berthing during the regattas held in their marinas in Dalmacija and Mandalina. 5 out 6 scored events for the CRO ORC Cup will be held in D-Marin marinas while the next Easter Regatta will be traditionally held on the island of Hva
