The
Yacht Club Gaeta and the Base Nautica Flavio Gioia with great
determination have addressed the problems related to the Covid 19
emergency to honor the agreements made with the FIV and with UVAI to
host our most important Championship. About 60 owners have responded
to this effort and will be racing for the coveted title over 25-29
August.
A very high level of competition will guarantee a great show. The
lure of regattas held around the buoys in the beautiful Gulf of
Gaeta has not left the sailors who believed in this event, and in
about 20 days they will take an important step to put behind a truly
dark period for all the world of sport. The best will be there.
There will also be convivial moments, specifically designed for the
occasion, in order to be compatible with the security protocol of
this extraordinary event.
Donatello Mellina, councilor of the FIV on the delegation to
offshore sailing said: "A heartfelt thanks to the organizers and to
all the owners for what I am sure will be a true message of optimism
and trust. After this period we have suffered of forced inactivity,
being able to finally see a passionate and fierce fleet at sea will
certainly serve to restore confidence to the sport."
Fabrizio Gagliardi, president of UVAI, said: "I have always believed
in this event which represents a rebirth for all of us, an important
signal of return to normal for the offshore sailing. Fortunately,
even towards the end of this season many other events will follow
which will allow the owners to return to racing."
Luca Simeone, CEO of the Base Nautica Flavio Gioia, said: “Respect
for the rules, understanding, collaboration. Only the respect of the
anti COVID-19 regulations, the understanding of the difficulties we
face, which is new for everyone, and the collaboration by boat
owners, competitors, and other collaborators will allow us to manage
this unique event.
“We would like to now thank all that the participants in the
Championship and the customers of Base Nautica Flavio Gioia who will
be "invaded" by a group of responsible sportsmen who will bring life
back to regattas and will be part of a very hard-fought on a race
course area that is unique in the world.”
