Boats
of all lengths (up to ten meters) were sailing together for the
championship what was in fact the summer opening of the sailing
season on Lake Garda. The Italian Mini Altura ORC Championship
brought together the fleets of monotypes and few prototypes from
Liguria and the Adriatic, the lakes of Lombardia with the Maggiore,
Como, Iseo.
Almost fifty boats (250 people on board) with the Gentlemen Cup on
the line, a regatta that reserves a ranking for the skipper-owners.
The championship has been organized by the Circolo Vela Gargnano in
collaboration with Yacht Club Cortina d'Ampezzo, with the patronage
of the Italian Sailing Federation and Uvai, the Lombardia Region and
coordination of the Lake Garda Consortium and Visit Brescia and with
Harken technical collaboration.
On the water it has been a real battle among super-technological
boats and less modern ones. Making its debut, "EcoRacer-Northern
Light Sailing", built 100% with natural fibres, a recycled core and
a new conception resin that allows the hull to be recovered at the
end of its natural life, promoting a new circular economy in the
yachting sector. Ecoracer769 does very well winning on its debut
with Roberto Spata, Lorenzo Tonini, Fabrizio Albini and the
Larcher’s brothers Diego and Fabio from Saló.
An interesting fleet, among which, the Etchells 22, built in 1966,
the Melges 24 dating back to the 80s, then all the monotypes up to a
length of 10 meters and 2 tons of displacement, designs like the
Dolphin, Protagonist, Fun and the Ufo. And among the crews, in
addition to the guys from Ecoracer, those from Ufetto 22 of the
Circolo Vela Gargnano with those who have become the "Fraternal
Twins", 64 years in total, with Annalisa Vicentini and her brother
Alessio, plus the real "twins" Giovanni and Francesco Arosio, just
15 years old.
In the top five of the overall ranking of the Mini Altura 2022 we
find Larcher's Ecoracer 769, the Melges 24 Adriatica, the Etchells
22 of the Tigullio, Baraimbo (Fraglia Desenzano), 10 and Lode of the
Como-based Massimo Canali, the Ufetto 22 of Giacomo Rodolfo
Giambarda. At the seventh position, with the top spot in the
Gentlemen Cup there is the Dolphin “Achab” of Luca Nassini, in 10th
place “Avec Plasir”, Renato Vallivero, first Protagonist and finally
the first Fun, “Dulcis in fundo” of Marco Redaelli.
