Southernmost Regatta starts in Key West

16 January 2023

Racing starts today in the annual Southernmost Regatta in Key West, Florida. The event will be five days of inshore racing, with the GL 52 Class of four TP52’s racing in one course area, while 8 teams of mixed boat types will racing in an ORC Class in another course area inside the reef.

The latter class will be particularly interesting as it has a wide array of boat types and rated speeds. Gwen Fragomen’s all-carbon custom Botin 44 INTERLODGE IV and Pat Harr’s Cookson 50 EN GARDE are at the fast end of the class with GPH ratings about 460 and are racing against boats rated over 100 sec/mile slower that include NEKA Sailing’s Figaro 2 FC2, Tom Sutton’s J/122 LEADING EDGE and Bill Henckel’s J/120 EMOCEAN.

Sportboats are also in this class: John McLeod’s Melges 32 DELTA and Trey Sheehan’s C&C 30 HOOLIGAN SOUPRA, so it will be an interesting week of racing for everyone in this class
