Búzios Sailing Week 2025: Tradition, Technical Excellence, and New Winds with Energisa

8 April 2025 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil -  From April 17 to 20, Armação dos Búzios will once again be the stage for Búzios Sailing Week, one of Brazil’s most traditional and prestigious regattas. In 2025, the event gains even more strength with sponsorship from Energisa and support from the State of Rio de Janeiro’s Department of Sports and Leisure, through the State Sports Incentive Law. Ocean Pact, the Municipality of Búzios, and ABVO are also supporting partners of this edition.

Organized by the Iate Clube Armação de Búzios (ICAB), with technical support from CBVela – Brazilian Sailing Confederation, the competition will bring together the country’s top offshore racing yachts in the following classes: ORC Performance, ORC Cruiser-Racer, BRA-RGS, and BRA-RGS B.

The 2025 edition marks a special milestone: Búzios Sailing Week will also serve as the Brazilian Offshore Sailing Championship, further elevating its importance on the national sports calendar. It is the most prestigious offshore sailing championship in the country.

“Búzios Sailing Week reinforces the region’s role as one of Brazil’s leading sailing hubs. It was so during the Youth World Championship, and it continues to be through events that demand a high level of technical expertise and organization,” highlights Marco Aurélio de Sá Ribeiro, President of CBVela.

Conceived in 1988 by Lauritz Anton von Lachmann, BSW has become a benchmark for excellence in offshore sailing over the decades. With steady winds and a challenging racecourse, the regatta demands precision, strategy, and technical skill from sailors — factors that make it one of the most anticipated events on the nautical calendar.

“Búzios Sailing Week is recognized as one of the most technical offshore regattas in Brazil. The best boats and the most renowned sailors in the country compete here,” says Marcos Soares, Commodore of ICAB.

This prestige is a reflection of the history and mission of the Iate Clube Armação de Búzios, founded on July 16, 1973, by a group of sailors passionate about the sea, including José Carlos Laport, Lauritz Anton von Lachmann, and other prominent names in Brazilian sailing. With exclusive dedication to the sport, ICAB has become a national and international reference, and is the only yacht club in the world to have hosted the Youth Sailing World Championship twice — an achievement that underscores its commitment to nurturing and developing new talent in the sport.

More than just a regatta, Búzios Sailing Week is a celebration of sailing at its core: challenging, technical, and inspiring. A tradition that remains strong, now fueled by top-tier partners and a continuous commitment to sporting excellence and promoting Brazil’s coastline as the setting for great achievements.
