4 November 2024 - Singapore - The Offshore Racing Congress reports another great year of progress in its 55th year of providing technical solutions for fair racing among a wide variety of racing yachts: Monohulls, Multihulls, Superyachts and a new class this year: the magnificent J Class yachts.

Using a sophisticated Velocity Prediction Program (VPP) that is updated and refined each year, ORC rating systems generate a variety of certificate types that apply to both Full-crew and Shorthanded sailing in formats that can apply to racing levels that range from casual club sailing to Grand Prix world championships.

ORC also provides guidance and support for implementing these handicap ratings for use in both inshore and offshore races, with all its rules, guidelines, and the VPP itself published and fully accessible to its users.

With feedback and cooperation with race organizers and sailors, ORC also seeks to provide the very latest tools in scoring technology, with this year’s launch of Weather Routing Scoring being a signature advance in the fair handicapping of offshore races.

ORC is the world’s largest measurement-based rating system, with nearly 15,000 certificates expected to be issued by year’s end to over 9000 boats racing in 41 countries. Its popularity is growing yearly, and the calendar of ORC championship events is already full for the next two years.

This Annual Report summarises all the features of this remarkable system.
