Generali leads the ORC Slovenian Nationals ranking after One Sails Cup 2023
Izola, Slovenia - On the weekend of May 20-21, 2023, JK Skipper Maribor organised the first part of the ORC Slovenian National Championship – One Sails Cup 2023, with ten boats taking part. Along with the best home teams, the Czech boat Mary S with the Slovenian crew of Peter Podunavac was among the favourites.
Five races were planned, four W/L inshore races and one coastal race of approx. 15 nM. All races started and finished in front of Izola. On both days the wind was blowing between 10 and 25 knts and the whole programme was completed without any problems.
On Saturday first two inshore races, then the coastal race. The course of the coastal race was upwind from Izola to the turning buoy off Koper, then downwind to the ocean buoy off Piran, upwind to the turning buoy off Fiesa and upwind again to the finish off Izola. On Sunday, two more W/L races were completed.
After Saturday's races, it was clear that Generali (TP52 ONE OFF) skippered by Samo Žvan, JD Mariborčanka and Mary S (JPK 10,30) skippered by Peter Podunavac, YC Portorož were fighting for the victory. Generali took 1st, 2nd and 1st place and Mary S took 2nd, 1st and 2nd place. On Sunday, the first race was won by Taia2 & White Goose (Aria 415 MOD.) skippered by Goran Djordjevic, JK Loka Timing, with Mary S second and Generali third. Generali sailed it perfectly and won, while Mary S started too fast and scored 11 points for OCS.
After the worst result’s discard, Generali of Samo Žvan, JD Mariborčanka leads with 5 points the ranking of the ORC Slovenian National Championship, while Mary S, of Peter Podunavac, YC Portorož with 7 points is in the second, and Aria (Melges 24 OD) of Marko Potisek, JK Maestral with 13 points on the third.
The second part of the ORC Slovenian National Championship is scheduled with the Marina Portorož Cup regatta for September 16-17.
