ORC Workshop in Turkey – Strong Momentum Ahead

20 October, 2025 - Datca, Turkey - On Friday, October 17, representatives from seven yacht clubs and the Turkish Sailing Federation attended an ORC Workshop held in connection with the Knidos Cup, hosted by Datça Yacht Club last weekend.

Turkey now boasts over 300 ORC certificates, ranking among the Top 10 countries worldwide — an impressive achievement accomplished in less than a year since the transition to the ORC rating system for major regattas in 2025.

During the workshop, participants were introduced to the use of Weather Routing Scoring (WRS) through the RaceFlow web platform. This demonstrated how easily courses and fleets can be set up for test runs to predict each boat’s estimated time of arrival (ETA) and, more importantly, calculate a forecasted Time Correction Factor (TCF) for fair and accurate scoring.

Thomas Nilsson, representing the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC), showcased the available tools and provided hands-on support to the growing Turkish ORC community.

“The enthusiasm and development we’ve seen in Turkey within such a short time are truly impressive. The engagement of clubs, the federation, and local organizers shows strong potential for future international championships,” said Nilsson.

A big thank you to everyone who made this possible! ORC looks forward to continuing close cooperation with the Turkish ORC fleet, boat owners, the federation, organizers, measurers, and all who are driving offshore sailing forward in Turkey.

With this rapid growth, plans are already underway for a bid to host the ORC European Championship in 2027.

Next up: the 36th Marmaris International Yacht Races (Marmaris Cup) from October 25–31, 2025, with 110 boats registered — making it the largest ORC regatta in Turkey.
