Provisional Leaders Emerge After Intense Inshore Races at the Trofeo S.M. La Reina in Valencia
July 5, 2024 – Valencia, Spain – The 25th edition of the Trofeo S.M. La Reina and the 36th edition of the Copa Almirante Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui, along with the ORC Sportboat European Championship, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Valencia (RCNV), saw an intense day of racing on Friday. The ORC classes 0 to 4, and ORC Sportboat fleets competed across the Alpha, Bravo, and Charly courses. The day began with a 95-degree wind at 7 knots, shifting to 100-105 degrees and settling between 6 and 8 knots from the East.
The overall provisional class leaders are Lisa R (ORC 0), Elena Nova (ORC 1), Katara by Ready Set Go (ORC 2), Tanit IV - Medilevel (ORC 3), Lassal (ORC 4), Milu’4 (ORC Sportboat), Remolí (Open), and Cormorant (Promotion).
ORC SPORTBOAT Class - MUSTO The Este 24 Milu’4 (ITA), skippered by Andrea Pietrolucci, had an outstanding day, recovering from an eighth-place finish on Thursday. To take the lead, the Italian team secured two firsts and a second in Friday’s three races. The Sonar 23 Sos Mar Menor (ESP), skippered by José Antonio Anton Olmos, also performed well, with two second places, and a first, recovering from a seventh-place finish on the first day to hold second place. The GP26 Pinto Tercero (ESP), skippered by Emilio Azofra, the leader on the first day, posted three fourth-place finishes on Friday, placing third provisionally.
ORC 0 Class - MERCEDES VALDISA
Lisa R, a Ker 46 (ITA) owned by Giovanni di Vincenzo, dominated the two completed races in the ORC 0 class, leading with two points. Tenaz (ESP), skippered by Pablo Garriga, followed closely, securing two second places with his Swan 50, totaling four points. Three Spanish TP 52s occupy the third to fifth positions after the two races: Urbania scored a 3rd and a 4th; Aifos of the Spanish Navy scored a 5th and a 3rd; and Blue Carbon Properties finished with a 4th and a 5th.
ORC 1 Class - VARADERO VALENCIA The top three positions remained consistent across both races. The Swan 42 Elena Nova (GER) of Christian Plump, and the DK 46 Tiburón (ESP), skippered by Julio Hidalgo, are tied on three points, being first and second. The Estonian boat Katariina II (EST), skippered by Aivar Tuulberg, posted two third-place finishes to complete the provisional podium. The B&C46 Mercedes-Benz Valdisa (ESP), skippered by Elisabetta Quartaroli, is in fourth place with a 4th and a 5th. The fifth place provisionally is held by the Swan 45 Ulika (ITA), skippered by Stefano Masi, with a 6th and a 4th.
ORC 2 Class - ROYAL BLIS
The Argentinian boat Katara by Ready Set Go (PG390), skippered by Hermógenes and Diego Barcia, scored a fourth and a first on Friday to lead the ORC 2 class with five points, tying with two other boats. Saetta III-ProalVientos.N. (ESP), a Grand Soleil 40 D skippered by Javier Maestre, scored a 3rd and a 2nd, and the BH41 Escuela Taboga (ESP) of Emilio Guzmán, scored a 2nd and a 3rd.
ORC 3 Class - MSC
In the Charly course, ORC 3 completed two races. The Grand Soleil 37 B Tanit IV - Medilevel, skippered by María José Vila, leads the provisional standings with a 2nd and a 1st, tied on points with Mon de L’Ona II, a Vrolijk 37 of by Ramón Cañellas. The Grand Soleil 37 B Brujo, skippered by Federico Linares, holds third place with a 5th and a 3rd. All three are Spanish teams.
ORC 4 Class - OCCIDENT In the ORC 4 class, the Italia 9.98 B Lassal, skippered by Gonzalo Calvo, and the First 34.7 D Enewtec, the reigning champion, are tied for first place with three points each. Sergio Durá's Dufour 34 QB Dax, is in third place with two third-place finishes.
The Trofeo SM La Reina’s racing schedule kicked off on June 28 with a challenging 160-nautical-mile offshore race. The Offshore race was won by M10 ZAS C&R, skippered by José Luis Francés, owned by Carlos and José Francés, representing the RCN of Valencia.
The XXV Trofeo S.M. La Reina is part of the Mediterranean Sailing Circuit, along with the PalmaVela Regatta organized by the RCN Palma and the Conde de Godó BMW Sailing Trophy organized by the RCN Barcelona.
