21st Edition of Block Island Race Week adds ORC to class roster

14 April 2017

Every other June since 1965 the Storm Trysail Club has attracted sailors and their families to this small island just a few miles off the Rhode Island coast for a week of racing and evening fun. For many this is the start of the summer sailing season in New England, but the event also draws entries from throughout the US and the world as well.

This the oldest and largest biennial Race Week event in the US, with a fleet is a diverse mix of one designs and boats racing under handicap. This edition now boasts over 140 entries, with more expected.

Organizers this week have amended the Notice of Race to add ORC classes in response to several requests from both existing and potential entries. Boats with either ORCi or ORC Club certificates are eligible for the ORC classes.

"This will be ORC's first appearance at Block Island Race Week and promises to provide sailors a new opportunity to see it used, said Event Chairman AJ Evans..
