Sandro Ricetto passes

20 November 2017

On Sunday 19th Sandro Ricetto passed away at the age of 83, after a long illness,in Cagliari, his hometown. A civil engineer by profession, he pioneered and managed the initial times of the IMS all over Italy, in the early 1990s, chairing the RC in a great number of events. Things had to be conducted his own way, sometimes with disappoinment of others, but they were always a success.

With wife Karen and the other members of his Sardinian "brigade" of which Gianfranco Alberini and his wife Giovanna were integral part of, he helped set high standards also internationally, in all race venues of the early IMS and Maxi World Championships.

Along his career as Race Committee Chairman, he has been for many years the Chairman of the Sardinian FIV organization, the Offshore Committee of FIV, then Councillor of FIV and later Uvai. Sandro also sailed long miles all along the Mediterranean Sea with family and friends on board Saguenka, an Illiria 47' designed by S&S and built by Benello in the 1980s, which he kept for his entire life, and was often used as the RC boat mostly in Sardinia but also elsewhere.

The ORC sends their condolescences to the family, and gives a tribute to a great sailor and man.
