52nd Conde de Godó Sailing Trophy – The ORC Double Handed fleet to once again open the Conde de Godó BMW Trophy

The 52nd Conde de Godó BMW Sailing Trophy is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona (RCNB) under the delegation of the Real Federación Española de Vela (RFEV) and with the collaboration of the Federació Catalana de Vela (FCV).

28 May 2025 - Barcelona, Spain -  The Real Club Náutico de Barcelona is preparing for a grand celebration as it kicks off the 52nd edition of the Trofeo Conde de Godó BMW, taking place from May 29 to June 1. This year, the regatta will feature nearly one hundred boats, a milestone achieved by the organizers that reflects the growing interest in this high-level cruising event.

Although most of the fleet won’t begin racing until Friday, the first to compete will be the ORC A Dos (double-handed) class participants, who will start their offshore race on Thursday at 3:00 PM. The second race for this category is scheduled for Saturday, with a coastal course.

Since the RCN Barcelona hosted the ORC Double-Handed (A Dos) World Championship 2023, this class has grown in popularity, especially along the Mediterranean coast, becoming a key feature of the Trofeo Conde de Godó BMW. The recent BCN Race Musto, held last week, clearly confirmed this trend, with Blue Oyster winning in Group A and Mowgli in Group B.

A total of eleven boats will compete in the ORC A Dos class, with top contenders including Shaka, a Figaro 2 sailed by Iván Olivé and Toni Pozo, who finished second overall and won the long race in last year’s edition. Tarterita, a Sun Odyssey 36, is also competing.i skippered by Barcelona's David García, who placed third last year, and the Belgian boat Diabolic, a Sun Fast 36 helmed by Glenn de Brouwer, who secured second place in the 2024 coastal race.

The ORC A Dos competitors will set off on Thursday on a course starting from Barcelona. Pere Sarquella, PRO of the Trofeo Conde de Godó BMW, explains that “in coastal races like this, we have to pay close attention to the weather forecasts, as these are long races that include nighttime sailing, meaning the fleet can encounter a variety of conditions.”

Up to eleven potential routes are planned, ranging north towards the Costa Brava and south towards the Ebro Delta. The selected course will be announced during the skippers’ briefing on Thursday morning.

Organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona in collaboration with the Real Federación Española de Vela and the Federació Catalana de Vela, the 52º Trofeo de vela Conde Godó BMW is sponsored by BMW and supported by La Vanguardia, the Ajuntament de Barcelona, and the Generalitat de Catalunya. Collaborators include Mapfre, De Antonio Yachts, Veri, Royal Bliss, Estrella Damm, Isdin, and Gramona.
