A generous Garbí wind put the finishing touch to the 50th Conde de Godó Sailing Trophy in Barcelona

Starting from a course of 185 and almost 11 knots of intensity, throughout the morning it progressively increased in intensity until it reached an excellent 17-18 knots in the last race, at the same time as the direction was turning to the right and ended up at 205º.

The two race committees of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona have been very accurate in not rushing the first start of the day, despite having 15:00 hours as the deadline for the last start of the day. Nevertheless, they were able to finish the maximum number of races allowed, four for the J70 monotype and three for the ORC, completing this 50th edition with a total of 6 races for the four ORC groups and 9 races in the absolute J70 and Women's Cup. Thanks to this, all categories have been able to deduct the worst result from their results.

ORC A DOS

The Shaka (RCN Barcelona) of the duo Iván Olive and Toni Pozo won the second coastal race, with the Barcelona-Blanes-Barcelona course, which finished in the early hours of last night, after 15 hours of sailing. The Real Club Náutico de Barcelona crew won by two minutes on corrected time over Marten Jan Ringers' Yellow Rose from the Netherlands, and by seven minutes over Jordi Zaragoza's Ia Orana (CN VIlanova) in third place.

In the computation of the two coastal races sailed, Shaka and Ia Orana achieved identical partial results, a first and a third. But both races had different scoring coefficients. The Barcelona-Palamós-Barcelona 100-mile race multiplied the results by 1.5, while the 70-mile Barcelona-Blanes-Barcelona race had a coefficient of 1.3 points.

Thus, the first classified of the Conde de Godó Sailing Trophy in ORC A TWO was the Ia Orana with 5.4 points, to the 5.8 of the Shaka. Third place went to Tito Moure's Smerit (CV Blanes) with 8.2 points, the result of a second place in the first race and a fourth place in yesterday's race.

ORC groups

As expected after the three races yesterday, the outcome of the four ORC groups has been uncertain until the finish lines of the third and last race today.

Among the biggest boats, ORC 1, HM Hospitales - Hydra (1-2-3) climbed from third place to first. Oscar Chaves' boat, with the three Olympic champions Fernando León, Pepote León and Kiko Sánchez Luna together with the ocean navigator Guillermo Altadill, today sailed calmer and more confident as they took the pulse of the boat, in which they had not competed since last August. Rafael Carbonell's Rats on Fire, which started out as leader, was unable to complete the feat of winning its fourteenth Conde de Godó Sailing Trophy. Their results for the day (2-3-2) tied them on 12 points with HM Hospitales, who won the tie-breaker by including two firsts in their results, to none for Rats on Fire. Third, just one point behind them both, was Elena Nova, in which the president of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, Javier Sanz, was competing.

In ORC 2 the Valencian M8 of José Luis Francés defended the lead, controlling his pursuers Elke of the Dutchman Frans Rodenburg and the local Este Es Unno of Francisco Soldevilla. Both scored identical 10 points, with second place going to Elke.

In ORC 3 - By a single point, Laplaza Assesors, (RCN Barcelona) of Alexandre Laplaza skippered by Carles Rodríguez, consolidated first place by winning the third and decisive race of the day. In its wake was the Swedish Thomas Ruderwald's Santina, followed by the Uruguayan Lady, which was finally disqualified yesterday in the second race it was able to discard.

There was also no change of leader in ORC 4-5, with Guillermo Díaz's Asterix (CN Port Balís) taking the victory, but the next two steps of the podium have changed tenants. Manel Medina's esCERT (RC Marítim Barcelona) achieved good results (3-2-1) from start to finish, which took them to the second position. Pere Pericot's Swahili (RCN Barcelona) completed the podium.
