Allegra takes Multihull Cup 2025 title as Falcon takes flight in final race

29 September 2025 - Port Adriano, Mallorca - The Multihull Cup 2025 was held from 25 to 28 September in the waters off Port Adriano (Mallorca). Four boats participated, showcasing four very different multihulls: ranging from the 45 ft foiling Falcon, the 65 ft Morelli & Melvin Gaea, to the Gunboat 72 Layla with a flying bridge, and the 84 ft high-performance cruiser Allegra.

Offshore Racing Congress - ORC, besides the work of producing the certificates before the regatta, was present on site with Davide Battistin, who assisted competitors in ensuring that their boat configurations (sails and tankage in particular) were in compliance with their certificates. He also answered questions about the rating systems and scoring, and each day joined a different boat on the water, providing valuable information and data for scoring. This process was supported remotely by Simon Forbes, fully exploiting the potential of a VPP-driven handicap system. Constructed course scoring was used, reproducing the actual courses and wind conditions faced by the fleet. This choice ensured that handicap allowances reflected as closely as possible the real performances of each boat during the races.

Ines Cabrera very well managed the race program, carefully setting the courses to make the best of the less-than-favourable wind forecasts. Conditions were light and unstable on Friday, steadier and of medium intensity on Saturday (10–12 knots), and again weaker and fading early on Sunday. A total of four races were held: one coastal race on Friday, two windward/leeward races on Saturday, and another coastal race on Sunday.
Race Summary
Friday: Allegra dominated, extending her lead in the fading breeze of the final leg. In second place was Gaea, owned by Canadian sailor Zachary Plavsic, a former Olympic windsurfer, who had Olympic champions and America’s Cup winners Peter Burling and Blair Tuke on board for the manoeuvres. Falcon and Layla struggled more in the light winds.

Saturday: In steadier 10–12 knot conditions, two excellent windward/leeward races were completed. Allegra again won the first, ahead of Gaea, while in the second race Layla sailed an inspired race, staying well in phase with the shifts, but ultimately finished just 30 seconds behind Allegra in corrected time.

Sunday: With a cloudy sky and a start moved earlier to avoid the forecast afternoon lull, the fleet sailed a 10-mile coastal course in medium-light winds complicated by some swell. Allegra again crossed the line first, but this time the smaller Falcon sailed brilliantly, maintaining speed in the variable breeze to claim the corrected-time win by a margin of two and a half minutes over Allegra.

At the end of the regatta, competitors and organisers—including MHC Event Director Andrea Grimm, Rob Grimm, Marianne, and Allegra’s owner Adrian Keller—shared very positive feedback. As Rob noted: “Strange enough, no sailor is blaming the handicap.”

The dates for the eighth edition of the Multihull Cup next year will be confirmed by 31st October.
