Fernando Chain's MAC Wins the Rolex South Atlantic Circuit 2025

January 31, 2025 - Punta del Este, Uruguay - One of the most anticipated events of the year has come to an end: the Rolex South Atlantic Circuit 2025 for ORC and ORC Sportboat fleets, concluding with the traditional Gorriti Island Race. The event took place in Punta del Este, Uruguay, co-organized by the Yacht Club Argentino and the Yacht Club Punta del Este, with the sponsorship of Rolex.

During this edition, 51 boats with 450 crew members participated across the ORC (42) and ORC Sportboat (9) categories, representing Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, and Uruguay.

As the final race of the championship, the traditional “Vuelta a Gorriti” Regatta took place, covering a 16-mile course. The competition started at 13:00 for the ORC and ORC Sportboat categories.

The award ceremony for the Rolex South Atlantic Circuit 2025 Cup winners was held at the Yacht Club Punta del Este.

Rolex South Atlantic Circuit 2025 – Champions & Awards

The ORC 1 Formula and Performance Division champion was “MAC”, skippered by Fernando Chain, securing first place and claiming overall victory in the championship. This achievement earned him the top prize: a Rolex watch. He was followed in second place by “CRIOULA” of Eduardo Plass, while “PATAGONIA” of Rafael Pereira Aragón completed the podium in this category.

In ORC 2 Class, the winner was “LLANERO” of David Said, also taking first place in the Cruiser/Racer Division. “DOUBLE BLACK” of Diego Belli finished second, while “MAD MAX” BY CANUTO of Augusto Cortina placed third and was also the winner of the Performance Division in ORC 2 Class.

The winner of ORC 3 Class and the Cruiser/Racer Division was “MISTERIO”, skippered by Juan Carlos Benitez. He was followed in second place by “CHANGO” of Nicolas Macchi and in third place by “MAXIMUM” of Francisco Liguori.

The winner of the Performance Division in ORC 3 Class was “PROMETEO”, helmed by Harry Giuria.

In the ORC Sportboat category, “PANTERA” of Guillermo Pla claimed victory, followed by “80/20” of Diego Guani and Gonzalo Arocena in second place and “CUTTY SARK” of Florencia Bellini in third place. Florencia Bellini and her team also won the Best Female Crew award.

The “Buque Correo” Cup was once again claimed by “CRIOULA” of Eduardo Plass, who won the Buenos Aires – Punta del Este regatta and secured the Blue Ribbon of the championship.

The award for the boat from the furthest home port went to “XAMA” of Sergio Klepacz, who also took first place in the Cruiser/Racer Division of ORC 1 Class.

One of the most important events of the South American racing calendar is the “Rolex Circuito Atlántico Sur”, co-organized by the Yacht Club Argentino (YCA) and the Yacht Club Punta del Este under the auspices of ROLEX.
