Massimo Juris - Helmsman/Skipper

Massimo Juris, a long-time captain in the merchant navy and executive in the shipping industry, began his sailing journey as a young boy on dinghies by joining the Italian Finn team. Transitioning to offshore boats, he has successfully raced in various teams of boatyards and design studios. After a hiatus, he returned in 2008 to small crew offshore racing in the Mediterranean with the First 40.7 cruiser/racer "Blucolombre", winning numerous regattas and securing the Italian Offshore Championship twice in 2014.

Since 2015, with the Class 40 "Colombre XL", he has ventured into the Atlantic, participating in renowned offshore races such as the Fastnet, the Tour of Ireland, the Normandy Channel Race, and France - Azores crossings and back, alongside Pietro Luciani.

More recently, Juris has continued to excel, attaining the status of a Federal Instructor and resuming racing in the Mediterranean. His JPK 10.80 proved to be a winning choice, as he triumphed in both the Middle Sea Race and the Italian Offshore Absolute Championship in 2022.

Pietro Luciani - Co-Skipper

Pietro Luciani, a native Venetian born in 1985, boasts an impressive track record in Class40 and beyond. He has logged over 100,000 miles on the Mediterranean and Atlantic Oceans and successfully completed seven Atlantic crossings on Class40 boats, including prestigious races like the Transat Jacques Vabre.

An architect by training, Luciani transitioned into a professional navigator in 2015. Alongside participating in major regattas worldwide, he secured victories in the RORC Caribbean 600 in Class40 in 2018 and 2019, as well as the Class40 Championship in 2019 and 2022.

Noteworthy achievements include second-place finishes at the 2019 Normandy Channel Race (with Pablo Santurde del Arco), the Rolex Fastnet Race 2017, and the last edition of the Défi Atlantique in 2019. Since 2021, Luciani has served as the vice president of Classe40, aiming to expand Class40 regattas to the Mediterranean, broaden the calendar of events, and extend navigation beyond the ocean. In 2023, he participated in the Ocean Global Race aboard Translated 9.

Thirty Double-Handed teams from four nations are poised to do battle in less than two weeks at the 30th annual running of La Duecento, a popular 200-mile race in the upper Adriatic organized by Circolo Nautico Porto Santa Margherita (CNSM). These teams will also be competing for podium medals as part of the 2024 ORC Double-Handed European Championship, now in its second year and the first of several World and European Championship events on the 2024 international racing calendar organized by the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC).
