The 51st Edition of the Trofeo de vela Conde de Godó BMW Nears 80 Registrations

22 May 2024, Barcelona, Spain - The countdown has begun for the 51st edition of the Conde de Godó BMW Sailing Trophy, which will take place from May 29 to June 2 in the waters of Barcelona. The competitions will include the J70, ORC, and ORC A Dos categories.

In recent days, the number of registrations has increased significantly, surpassing seventy boats as predicted by the organizers. To date, a total of 75 teams have pre-registered, with a notable rise in participation in the J70 class, which includes 14 teams from Spain, France, and Thailand. Among these, five teams are composed entirely of female crews, competing for the ‘Godó Women’s Cup.’

The ORC Double Handed fleet, competing for the third consecutive year, includes 16 boats divided into two groups. These teams represent Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain. Meanwhile, the ORC class has registered the highest participation, with 44 boats from Estonia, Belgium, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Germany, Uruguay, Poland, and Spain. These will be divided into four groups: ORC 0-1, ORC 2, ORC 3, and ORC 4-5.

With 75 teams pre-registered so far, the pre-registration period remains open until Friday, May 24, at 8:00 PM, with the possibility of reaching 80 teams.

Organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona in collaboration with the Real Federación Española de Vela and the Federació Catalana de Vela, the 51st Trofeo de vela Conde de Godó is sponsored by BMW and supported by La Vanguardia, the Ajuntament de Barcelona, and the Generalitat de Catalunya. The 2024 Mediterranean Sailing Circuit brings together the results of the PalmaVela regatta at the Real Club Náutico de Palma (from May 1 to 5), the Trofeo Conde de Godó BMW at the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona (from May 29 to June 2), and concludes with the Trofeo de S.M. la Reina at the Real Club Náutico de Valencia (from June 28 to July 7). This event is open to ORC 0, 1, 2, 3, and A2 classes, and to be eligible for the final ranking, participants must compete in at least two of the three scheduled events.

Additionally, the “Best Club of the Mediterranean” trophy, called the Mediterranean Interclubs Grand Prix, will be awarded. The top finishers from each participating club in each class (with owners required to have a license from the club they represent) will be included in a new ranking to determine the best club of the season.
