To use a football metaphor, we could define the Campionato Italiano Assoluto d'Altura (Italian Offshore Sailing Championship) as "the Scudetto of Italian sailing": the main event reserved for sailing boats with a maximum length of 16.40 metres; the not-to-be-missed event for all owners and crews competing at the highest levels in the competitive sailing scene.

The event, which involves many enthusiasts, is one of the five top events promoted during the year by the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), which has assigned hosting the 2023 edition to the Club Nautico Marina di Carrara following the successes achieved on the racecourses by the boats of the owners of the Carrara sports association, today the symbol of excellence of blue sailing in the Altomare.

"The assignment to Marina di Carrara, which makes us proud," commented Carlandrea Simonelli, President of the Club Nautico, "testifies to the vitality and glorious tradition of this club, which has always played a leading role in Italian sailing."

In collaboration with the Unione Vela d'Altura Italiana (UVAI), the event hosted by the Club Nautico Marina di Carrara received the patronage of the major institutions including the Region of Tuscany and CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) for its outstanding sporting prestige. The high competitive level of the participants, in fact, places the Campionato Italiano Assoluto d'Altura among the most important sporting events in Italy.

An expression of modern national and international yachting, the Campionato Italiano Assoluto d'Altura is a highly attractive and spectacular event capable of conveying, also to the new generations, the values of fair-play that sailing promotes as a necessary element and not an accessory within a clean discipline that bans cheating, doping, verbal and physical violence, and discrimination.

"Assigned to the Club Nautico Marina di Carrara, this prestigious sporting event will be an unforgettable celebration of sailing," commented Carrara's Olympic sailor Tommaso Chieffi, who will take part in the Championship with the role of tactician on board one of the entered boats.

In synergy with the top management of the Italian Sailing Federation, the Organising Committee at the Club Nautico Marina di Carrara is working to ensure the best hospitality for the participating sailors as part of a welcoming policy aimed at promoting and developing the sport.

"We are expecting here in Marina di Carrara," concluded Simonelli, "the excellence of national and international sailing, an expression of the successes of Italian boat owners who, in terms of the number of entries, the tonnage certificates issued, and the movement of boats and crews, place Italian sailing among the best on the world sailing scene."

Lastly, the event proposes itself as an excellent showcase for the Apuo-Versilian and more generally Tuscan territory, so rich in culture, history and beautiful landscapes, with positive repercussions on the economy and induced activities.
