ORC Seminar Tour in Norway and Finland

ORC Seminar Tour in Norway and Finland

The upcoming ORC DH World Championship to be held in June in Norway and ORC European Championship in the Aland Islands in August has prompted ORC, KNS, and the Finnish Offshore Association to organize recent seminars and promotions led by ORC Chief Measurer Zoran Grubiša.

The first was a Measurement Seminar held in Oslo from 19-21 April and gathered measurers from Norway, Sweden, and Lithuania. Topics included a general presentation of the ORC rating system for sailors and race officers on Friday, 19 April, with particular attention given to the technical requirements for participating at the ORC DH Worlds. Weather Routing Scoring that will be used at the championships was also discussed.

The next two days were dedicated to practical training in measurement procedures and techniques, providing a comprehensive understanding of the complete set of measurements performed on the boat. From measurements of flotation and stability to those on the propeller, rig, sails, and Cruiser/Racer accommodation requirements, this knowledge base will be invaluable in ensuring your boats are fully prepared for the DH Worlds, potentially leading to a record-breaking turnout for the event.

The presentation was split into three parts: first, a general explanation of the ORC Rating systems, certificate types, scoring options, and all the features that make ORC unique based on science, transparency, and flexibility. The second part explained how to prepare boats for the ORC European Championship and how the pre- and post-race equipment inspections will be performed during the event. The third part was reserved for questions and answers from the audience, together with an explanation of changes to the ORC Rules for 2024.

Both events were well-received by the audiences, and ORC is looking forward to two great ORC Championships in Northern Europe this year.

After the ORC European Championship in Hankø in August 2022, the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club hosts the ORC Double Handed World Championship 2024!

The championship will kick off in the vibrant city of Oslo and conclude in the historic coastal town of Tønsberg. The race will be based on the legendary Skaw Racecourse, offering good opportunities for variations and shortening.
The spotlight of European ORC racing will shine on the picturesque Åland Islands this August as it plays host to the highly anticipated ORC European Championships 2024. Organized by the Finnish Offshore Sailing Association, the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) and hosted in the ÅSS Marina, this premier event is slated to take place from August 9th-17th 2024.
