After a 40-minute delay awaiting a sailable easterly breeze, today race managers from Real Club Nautico Barcelona (RCNB) got all three classes off on their Long distance race at the 2023 ORC Double Handed World Championship.

Starting at 1100 CET tomorrow three waves of Double Handed teams will begin racing in the Long offshore race held at the 2023 ORC Double Handed World Championship, hosted by the Real Club Nautico Barcelona (RCNB). The race will start just offshore of the entrance to Port Vell in Barcelona.

Winners in their respective categories are: Galateia in Maxi A, Bella Mente in Maxi B, Spirit of Lorina in Maxi C, Allegra in the Multihull Class, Y3K in the Supermaxi, and Svea among the J Class

Starting on Saturday, September 9 through 15 September, Real Club Nautico Barcelona (RCNB) will host the second annual edition of the ORC Double Handed World Championship. The event is organized by RCNB, a delegation of the Royal Spanish Federation of Sailing (RFEV) under the authority of the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) and the collaboration of the Catalan Sailing Federation (FCV).

On 4 September there was a deadline for ORC Nominating Bodies to submit ideas for improvement to the ORC system for discussion at the ORC Annual General Meeting.

A fleet of around 50 maxi yachts is due to gather in Porto Cervo from 3rd to 9th September for the 33rd edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with title sponsor Rolex and the International Maxi Association.

4 entries in three classes - ORC, IRC and Class 40 - will start today in the 18th edition of the Palermo-Monte Carlo Race, organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia (CVS) and Yacht Club de Monaco in partnership with Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) under the patronage of FIV and UVAI.

After two light and wet windward-leeward races held today, the final results after six days of inshore and offshore racing reveal that that last year’s boats and/or teams have defended their titles for the 2023 ORC World Championship.

Starry skies, varied wind speeds and close competition in all three classes made for a beautiful night of racing on the Long Offshore Race of the 2023 ORC World Championship. The forecasted westerly winds held in – more or less – throughout the night, helping the fleet make good progress around their marks in the Kieler-Bucht.

Sunny skies and 12-18 knots of wind were a welcome respite for the 111 teams competing here in Kiel on Day 4 of the 2023 ORC World Championship after three consecutive days of blustery west winds. Two windward-leeward races were conducted for each of the three classes competing on their own course areas, with the challenge not being the wind speed but the wind shifts that kept race managers from Kieler-Yacht Club busy with their course management.

Yet another day of brisk westerly winds in the Kieler Bucht prompted race managers from Kieler Yacht-Club to hold another morning Coastal Race on Day Three of the 2023 ORC World Championship. This was the second Coastal race for Class A and the third for Classes B and C.

In this second day of racing at the 2023 ORC World Championship, the persistent low-pressure center in southern Scandinavia continued to drive strong westerly winds in the Kieler Bucht. Accordingly, race managers from Kieler Yacht-Club set a coastal course for Classes B and C with early leaders emerging in these classes after two races.

The weather today in the Kiel Bucht region was exactly as forecasted, with strong westerly winds of 20-35 knots on the first Coastal Race of the 2023 ORC World Championship, producing a wild but fast and fun experience for the 113 boats competing in the event.

Based on a forecast of west-northwest gale-force winds of 25 to over 40 knots in the Kiel Bucht region tomorrow, race managers from Kiel Yacht Club have amended the format of the 2023 ORC World Championship to start with a shorter Coastal Race rather than the Offshore long-distance race.
