The First-Ever ORC Double Handed European Championship Will Start Tomorrow
June 13, 2023 - Helsingør, Denmark - Three days of registration, measurements, and inspections have come to an end and tomorrow, on Wednesday, June 14th at 10 am the start will be given to a first-ever ORC DH European Championship 2023 off Helsingør Nordhavn, Denmark. The ORC DH European Championship 2023 is organized by the Helsingør Sejlklub in conjunction with the Round Sealand Race Week. Round Sealand will be sailed for the 77th time this year. It’s one of Denmark’s largest races and had more than 1000 attendees in 2022.
Thirty-one entries from seven nations - Finland, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Sweden have been divided into three ORC Classes - Class A and B with 10 entries and Class C with 11 entries. Among them the Swedish boat ZEUS Z30+ of Anders Dahlsjö and Martin Strömberg to fight for the ORC Class A European Champion title. In 2022 they won the first-ever awarded ORC DH World Champion title in Sweden.
Today, at the Welcome Reception held in Maritime Museum in Helsingør (M/S Museet for Søfart) the event was officially declared open by the Race Officer Martin Anfeldt of the Helsingør Sailing Club and ORC Chief Measurer Zoran Grubisa.
There are options for 3 different race courses. A primary course is 364 nautical miles long and two secondary courses of 290 and 230 nautical miles long, chosen depending on the weather forecast. The midsummer Danish night will not be very dark, so all competitors will enjoy the long parade of racing yachts all night long.
