After completing all inspection and registration formalities today, organizers at the 2024 ORC European Championship report that 56 teams in three classes are ready to start off the competition with a Long Offshore Race held in local Baltic waters around the Åland Islands and neighboring Swedish coast.

57 entries from 10 nations in Europe and beyond begin registration Friday, with racing to start on Monday. Teams are gathering now at Mariehamn, the Åland island venue near Finland that is hosting the 2024 ORC European Championship. Organizers for this event held over August 9-17 include the Finnish Offshore Racing Association and Åländska Segelsällskapet (ÅSS) under the authority of the Finnish Sailing Federation under the overall authority of the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC).

One the extensive race docks around the Real Club Náutico de Palma crews are making their final preparations in ready to take on the 42nd Copa del Rey MAPFRE regatta. More than 120 teams from 23 different nationalities, from first time amateurs to America’s Cup winners, Ocean Race winners and Olympic medallists, are all set to convene on the Bay of Palma over the coming days, contesting the top prizes which will be awarded at Saturday’s prizegiving.

After a challenging 204 miles of sailing in conditions that ranged from perfect to challenging, the winners of the 100th edition of the annual Bayview Mackinac Race presented by National Fleet Services were celebrated today at the scenic finish venue on Mackinac Island, Michigan. A record 332 monohulls and multihulls entered the race, with 309 boats completing the course.

An impressive turnout of 250 boats from throughout the USA and CAN have assembled in Chicago for today’s start of the 115th edition of the Chicago-Mackinac Race. This annual race of 290 miles is the oldest annual freshwater distance race in the world, with a start held off the urban city front of downtown Chicago to finish at the small island of Mackinac that lies at the confluence of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

The changes to the rules announced immediately on finishing last year’s 41st edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE ahead of the European Championships 2025, has created a completely new list of favourites for the podium of the Altavista ORC 2. The two main reasons are firstly, that the fastest boats from 2023 are now participating in the Odilo ORC 1 class, and secondly, that the fastest boats in the ORC 3 class have now been integrated into the Altavista ORC 2.

The overall provisional class leaders are Lisa R (Ker 46, ORC 0), Elena Nova (Swan 42, ORC 1), Katara by Ready Set Go (PG390, ORC 2), Mon de L’Ona II (Vroljik 37, ORC 3), Enewtec (First 34.7, ORC 4), Milu’4 (Este 24, ORC Sportboat).
